Archemais – the author of certain books that appear in chapter quotes. He makes his first physical appearance in Book II.
Capricia – An eighteen-year-old wood faun princess who finds the magic flute that brings Corry to Panamindorah. She rules her nation while her father conducts the war with the cats.
Chance – a cliff faun prince. He is rumored to be the bastard son of the queen and her captain of guard. He receives little respect and is bitter. His only public achievement—a ceremonial reward for bravery while fighting with Syrill during the cat wars—is interrupted by the Raider pack, who insultingly deface a statue in his honor. Chance swears revenge, and when Corry arrives, he is actively hunting the Raiders. He has hired the best bounty hunter in the region, Laylan, to concentrate on this group of wolflings.
Char – one of the slaves kept illegally by the swamp fauns. Char does not even know what species he is.
Cleo – an adult ocelot, one of Lexis’s officers.
Corellian (Corry) – a boy, age unknown (approximately 13 or 14), living in an orphanage in modern Florida at the beginning of the story. His memories are foggy beyond the last year, when he was found on the streets. When he came to the orphanage, he spoke a language no one recognized. To Corry’s intense frustration, the language and the memories associated with it are slipping away. Within the first three chapters, he finds his way into the world of Panamindorah. Corry speaks an archaic version of Panamindorah’s language. He believes he came from that world, but hundreds of years have passed in his absence. Corry begins a search for his identity and the identity of the person who banished him from his world. Along the way, he becomes embroiled in the politics and battles of modern Panamindorah.
Dance – Fenrah’s wolf, black, unusually large, rumored to be a talking wolf.
Danthra – an adult male alligator shelt, sometimes called lizard riders. He’s the head of a small clan.
Danzel – a ten year old male wolfling, a member of the Raider pack.
Daren – an adult swamp faun. He is one of the leaders in an ancient swamp faun conspiracy to keep illegal shelt slaves. He’s involved in other plots as well.
Fenrah – a female wolfling and leader of the Raider pack. She is said to be the last surviving member of the wolfling royal family, most of whom died a generation ago when the wolfling capital fell to the cats (led then by Lexis’s father). Fenrah is fighting for an end to bounty laws in wood faun territory. Her pack is the most successful group of outlaws to terrorize the area.
Gabalon – an adult wizard. Wizards are the only creatures in Panamindorah that look like humans. They are shape-shifters. Gabalon killed most of the other wizards in Panamindorah more than five hundred years ago to achieve dominance. He was ousted by the cliff fauns some three hundred years before Corry’s reappearance. His whereabouts are unknown.
Hualien – a member of the Raider pack, appears to be a child.
Istra – an adult female cliff faun, Shadock’s queen in Danda-lay. Chance’s mother, rumored to be having an affair with her captain of palace guard, Jubal.
Jubal – an adult male cliff faun, the captain of the palace guard in Danda-lay. The palace guard are administered by the queen. He is rumored to be engaged in an affair with Queen Istra and may possibly be Chance’s father.
Laylan – a foxling. Laylan is rumored to be half wolfling, but he was raised by fauns and is tolerated by them because he is the best bounty hunter in middle Panamindorah. Chance has hired him to catch the Raider pack.
Leesha – a female tiger cub, one of Lexis’s children, white, Tolomy’s sister.
Lexis – the cat king, a white tiger.
Liliana – an adult lioness, one of Lexis’s officers.
Loop – an adult male lynx, one of Lexis’s officers.
Lyli – an adult female wolfling, member of the Raider pack, Xerous’s mate.
Meuril – Capricia’s father, king of the wood fauns. His wife, Natalia (Capricia’s mother), was killed many years ago by wolfling bandits. Meuril sets bounties on wolves and wolflings all over wood faun territory.
Ounce – an adult male snow leopard, Lexis’s second in command.
Shadock – the cliff faun king in Danda-lay, has a few secrets.
Sham – a male wolfling, Fenrah’s cousin, her second in command, and the Raider’s pack healer.
Sharon-zool – the queen of the swamp fauns.
Shyshax – a cheetah, Laylan’s mount and close friend. Cheetahs were banished years ago from the cat council because they supposedly tried to kill Lexis when he was a cub.
Syrill – a wood faun general. He and Corry are both kidnapped by wolflings when Corry first enters Panamindorah.
Sven – an adult male wolfling, the most inventive member of the Raider pack, essentially their engineer.
Talis – a teenage female wolfling, a member of the Raider pack, an assistant healer to Sham.
Targon – centaur king.
Tavaris – an adult male cliff faun, over 90 years old, previous head of the palace guard and still serving there. He knows a number of secrets and helps Jubal in the defense of Danda-lay.
Tolomy – a male tiger cub, one of Lexis’s children, orange, Leesha’s brother.
Xerous – an adult male wolfling, member of the Raider pack, essentially their quartermaster and arms expert, Lyli’s mate.
